On April 21 and 22, 2017 Riga hosted the 4th Conference of Teachers of German and German Philologists of the Baltic Sea Region. As part of this conference, a work group discussed visions of German Philology: How should the field develop in the light of contemporary requirements and wishes by students, researchers, the academic community and market needs?

As a result, a position paper with 10 statements was published. The aim of this paper is to contribute to further discussions – on the role of the German language and German philology in Northern Europe and with regard to similar developments and discussions in other part of the world.

The leaders of the work group were Dr. Heiko F. Marten, director of the DAAD Information Centre in Riga, and Dr. Inga Probst, at the time DAAD lecturer for German literature at the University of Latvia.

The position paper is available only on the German version of this page.
