Language certificate

For many scholarship programmes you will need a German language certificate; if this is the case, it even holds for applicants who would like to study or conduct their research in English. If then you do not have a sufficient level of German, DAAD will finance a German language course as part of your scholarship.

As a German language certificate we generally accept the onDaF which is offered free of charge for DAAD scholarship applicants. This test is not required when a copy of one of the following certificates is submitted: DSH, ZOP, GDS, KDS, DSD II, TestDaF (level 4 in all parts), ÖSD C1 – Oberstufe Deutsch, ÖSD C2 – Wirtschaftssprache Deutsch, German or Austrian Abitur.

Proof of English language skills for English-instructed programmes or research stays is provided by TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge ESOL/Certificates. If non of there certificates is available, DAAD lecturers offer to take onSET test free of charge.
