Courses indicated by this symbol may be attended by students holding a DAAD university summer course scholarship.
- Scholarship allowance: 970 euros + bonuses
- Applications are open to students of all subject areas who, at the time of their application, have at least completed one academic year of their studies. At the time of starting the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled as students in a Bachelor's, Master's or Magister programme.
- Doctoral students and applicants who had already received a DAAD scholarship in the past (incl. University Summer School Grants) or a longer scholarship from another organisation are not eligible for this programme.

Study Visits / Study Seminars and Internships in Germany by Foreign Students

You can get all the information and application papers in the office of the DAAD in Riga, from the DAAD Lektors as well as in the DAAD department 224 in Bonn.
Please note that the grant per person per day has been increased to 50 Euros!
Application deadlines:
Applications must habe been submitted via the DAAD Portal by the following deadlines at the latest:
- 1 November each year for trips starting from 1 March
(DAAD decides in mid-January)
- 1 February each year for trips starting from 1 June
(DAAD decides in mid-April)
- 1 May each year for trips starting from 1 September
(DAAD decides in mid-July).

- Application form online including budget and list of participants
- Statement of reasons and description of programme content outlining exactly what the group wishes to visit and view, both in terms of subject-specific (academic) content and German regional/area studies content (vague or generally-worded descriptions such as “visits to museums”, “universities” are not acceptable on their own)
- Schedule (in tabular form)
- Description of content preparation for the trip (e.g. preparatory seminars)
- Proof of contacts on the German side (in the case of Study Visits), especially in higher education (e.g. by submitting copies of correspondence - invitations, confirmations). Proof of contacts on the foreign side (in the case of Study Seminars/Practicals), commenting on the significance of the proposed Study Seminar/Practical and how it is integrated into the academic development (programme path) of the foreign participants (general agreements, cooperation agreements, and similar documents do not, on their own, provide sufficient proof and can only be submitted to document further the specific contacts)
- statement of opinion of the DAAD Information Centre (in the case of Study Visits)

Course Completion Grants for Students Reading German Studies

Duration: Course completion grants are awarded for a period of between one and three months and cannot be extended. June to January, beginning on the 1st of each month.
- The DAAD pays a monthly award of 650 euros + bonuses.

Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines

- Duration: Depending on the length of the chosen degree course or study project, the study scholarship will be awarded for between 10 and 24 months.
- Monthly award of 750 euros + bonuses
- Applications are open to excellently-qualified graduates who, at the latest when they commence their scholarship-supported studies, hold a first degree (Bachelor 's, Diploma, or comparable academic degree).
- Candidates are responsible for their own admission arrangements.

- Besides previous academic achievements, the most important selection criterion is a convincing presentation of the applicant's academic and personal reasons for the planned study project in Germany.
- Description of the planned postgraduate course (official text of the university, e.g. brochure or information you can find on the internet), with a note concerning the actual duration of the course (in months)
- Letter of recommendation from the home university that includes an assessment of the applicant’s expert knowledge and capability. The certificate has to be written on the DAAD form.
- Proof of German language skills:
All applicants must prove their German language skills by taking the onDaF-Test (at the IC Riga or the DAAD Lektors). After a preselection in December the best qualified applicants will be invited to an obligatory personal interview which will take place by the end of February with a German-Estonian resp. German-Latvian resp. German-Lithuanian selection commission in Tallinn resp. Riga resp. Vilnius.

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists
DAAD programme description here.
Duration: Depending on the project in question and on the applicant 's work schedule, grants can generally be paid for between one and ten months. In the case of full doctoral programmes in Germany, grants can be paid for up to three years, in exceptional cases up to four years.
- Monthly award of 750 euros (graduates holding a first degree) or 1,000 euros (doctoral candidates)
- By the time of the application, the last graduation must be dated back not longer than:
6 years for graduates; 3 years for doctoral candidates (starting point of the promotion); 4 years for postdocs.
- If you want to graduate in Germany, the submission for your dissertation is necessary after the first year of sponsorship. Otherwise, you cannot extend your scholarship.
- It is not possible for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania doctoral programmes to be run under the "DAAD Sandwich Model".
- Research stay in Germany:
1 June till 31 January for grants of 1 to 6 months
1 October till 31 July for grants of 7 to 10 months

- Two academic references on DAAD Form by academics, who have some knowledge of the applicant’s personal achievements and capacities, as well as their academic qualities. (Applications for research stays of 1 – 6 months just need one reference.)

DAAD/Roche Diagnostics Postdoctoral Programme

- Duration: 12 – 24 months
- Monthly allowance of 1,840 euros.
- German language course (based on current level of German).
The DAAD and “Roche Diagnostics” is offering scholarships for advanced research placements at one of Europe’s leading Biotechnology centres in Penzberg, near Munich or in Mannheim. The scholarships are open to all highly qualified young post-doctoral scholars from EU countries and the USA. The scholarships are aimed at young post-doctoral researchers for whom experience in industrial research is an important qualifying step in their professional careers. Experimental research and developments in the area of Diagnostics will be supported by German university professors.
Application Criteria :
- Applicants must have an excellent academic background.
- Applicants will be selected, based on their previous academic achievements. Candidates should display knowledge of at least one of the following areas of study: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bio-Informatics, or Biochemistry.

Please also note the following before completing the application form:
- Questions 7-9: do not complete.
- Question 10: It is not necessary to complete a research proposal.

DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships in the fields of Space, Aeronautics, Energy and Transportation Research
‘DLR – DAAD Research Fellowships’ is a new programme implemented by the ‘Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt’ (DLR) and the ‘German Academic Exchange Service’ (DAAD).

Fellowships are always awarded for the length of the research stay in Germany. The host DLR Institute and the fellowship candidate will agree upon the length of this term.
Application Requirements
At the time of their application, applicants for a DLR-DAAD Fellowship must
- be able to prove their outstanding study or research achievements,
- Type A: have completed their studies or research with a university degree
- Type B: have completed their studies with a doctorate/PhD/Candidate (Russia),
- Type C: applicants must be working in higher education or at a research institute; positions are open to outstandingly-qualified academics and scientists who should generally hold a doctorate/ Ph.D.
- have an excellent knowledge of English, please provide evidence of this through the submission of appropriate language certificates (e.g. TOEFL: 550/217); a knowledge of German is advantageous,
- in general not be older than 32 years (Type A) or have completed their doctorate in the last two years (Type B) or assessed individually according to prerequisites (Type C).
Special note for applicants from the field of medicine: A university degree is considered equivalent to the German medical practice licence, the Approbation – that is proof of at least seven years of medical training and the licence to practice medicine in the home country.

- Depending on the applicant 's academic status, the monthly award will amount to 1,840 euros for assistant lecturers, assistant professors and young lecturers, and 1,990 euros for professors. In exceptional cases this may be increased to 2,240 euros.
- Travel expenses will not be paid.
- Requirements: detailed description of your research project, written confirmation of the research cooperation, including express reference to the applicant 's project, good German or English language skills, previous academic achievements (for example, recent publications) which are connected with the research topic
- DAAD support for a research stay can only be awarded once in any three-year period.

- DAAD support for a research stay can only be awarded once in any three-year period.

Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders

- Duration: Depending on the applicant 's work schedule, the research stay can last between one and three months (between May and January of the following year).
- Depending on the applicant 's academic status, the monthly award will amount to 1,840 euros for assistant lecturers, assistant professors and young lecturers, and 1,990 euros for professors. In exceptional cases this may be increased to 2,240 euros.
- Travel expenses will not be paid
